More info about Dream of Flight
Dream of Flight is a 14 song album that will be available through iTunes, CD Baby, Rhapsody, MusicMatch and dozens of other popular music sites as well as Queeniemusic.com. I've been working on Dream of Flight for a while . . . eight years actually since the release of my debut album, QUEENIE. Dream of Flight's title track is a song I heard in a dream I had about flying over a city. I am extremely fortunate to have had the requisite musical training that gives me the ability notate music by just hearing/remembering.
The 14 tracks of Dream of Flight took me a while. I produce all my music on my own using Reason and ProTools. As a dyed-in-the-wool homebody I prefer it this way, but I'll admit that it has been a steep learning curve. There were many times when I made common mistakes (always choose the highest res possible on your DAW! 96,000kHz plus 24 bit resolution!) and other times when I became obsessed with achieving a certain sound and would not stop until I had achieved some remote semblance of it.
In the writing of the songs I started imagining a story of a young girl named Quin who is forced to go to a remote boarding school in northern Japan. More about this is detailed below.
When I started out as Queenie in 2002, I came out with a (badly) home-recorded CD that achieved modest popularity on MP3.com. It was an exciting time because the traditional music industry was starting to falter and give way to the rise of the independent artist. Even with my small contribution, I was thrilled to be one of those who had not "signed away" my artistic integrity to a label deal that would force me to compromise in every way possible. Every day I am exceedingly thankful for the technology that enables me to create high-quality recordings without having to embed myself within the old music industry system. The QUEENIE CD did extremely well for an indie release, topping charts at Soundclick.com, BeSonic.com, and was even featured multiple times on the index page of FranceMP3.com. I was flirted with rather heavily by some weird record-industry people, but nothing came of it.
In later years, I found myself stranded in an old house in a small town. There was no computer, so I alleviated my terrible angst (no computers?? that's scarier than purgatory to a computer geek!!) by writing a story in longhand that occured to me in a recurring dream. One year later, I would release that story as a 34 chapter audio novel called Forever Fifteen. The success of Forever Fifteen overtook QUEENIE's debut, so I focused upon it for awhile releasing multiple formats of the book. Writing Forever Fifteen made me burn to write more fiction, but time constraints have remained the number one reason for my "writer's block". Along the way, I realized that the constant creation of new "stuff" or what I like to call my projects is the key to profound personal happiness. This is a big step up from a former major depressive. Like everyone else out there, I am just a normal person with a job and a family. Queenie is the magical one who sings and creates and does all the cool stuff.
I want to bring the Dream of Flight album to you as soon as possible, but I have felt that it is worth it to spend extra time making the music as good as is possible for me to do. Thank you for your patience as I continue working . . .
Dream of Flight is a concept album that evokes the fantasy world of a young girl named Quin. Quin faces heartbreak and severe isolation when she is forced to go to a haunted boarding school in the remotest region of Japan by her cruel Nisei mother. The boarding school is a portal to other dimensions infested by terrible creatures that periodically abduct students into their mysterious parallel worlds. The release of the Dream of Flight album is planned for release sometime in 2010.
